Exporting from India

High-quality food exports from India.

A pattamar was the lateen-rigged coastal vessel that carried pepper and grain along the Malabar coast. We carry the same kind of cargo, on the same coast — with an independent certificate of analysis attached to every lot.

How we work

Sourced at origin. Contracted on numbers.

India is a large, fragmented, opaque supply base. Most of what leaves it goes as anonymous bulk through houses that never name a farm and never publish a figure. We work the other way — small lots, named sources, and a written specification that both sides can measure.

01 · Origin

We buy where it grows

Direct from producer collectives and processing units in the growing district, not from a trading floor. You get the name of the district, the season and the lot — and where the product carries a Geographical Indication, the documentation to support it.

02 · Specification

Numbers, not grade names

Trade grade names carry no enforceable standard. Our contracts state the measurable parameters that decide the value of the product — and the measurement point, method and tolerance for each one.

03 · Scale

Small lots, done properly

We are built for the buyer who wants a pallet or a part-container of something specific, verified and repeatable — not thirty tonnes of the cheapest available. Consignments are consolidated so a small order still ships on sensible economics.

Verification

The certificate is the product.

Buying an unfamiliar Indian supplier means carrying contamination risk, consistency risk and documentation risk. We would rather remove those questions before you ask them — so analysis happens before shipment, not after a claim.

01

Specified, not described

Every contract states the physical and chemical parameters that define the lot, the test method for each, the point at which it is measured, and the allowance schedule if it is missed. Grade names appear as labels only.

02

Independently sampled

Sampling to recognised standard, drawn at loading rather than at the supplier's convenience. Three sealed samples: one to you, one to us, one held as reference and signed by both parties.

03

Fully panelled

Multi-residue pesticides, mycotoxins, heavy metals and the relevant microbiological panel, at accredited laboratories, reported to you before the goods sail. Treatment methods are declared in writing.

What we source

Indian food products where origin and specification actually matter.

We are deliberately narrow. We take on categories where India has a genuine quality advantage, where a measurable specification separates good from ordinary, and where we can stand behind the sourcing personally. If it is a commodity that competes only on price, it is not for us.

Current programme

Speciality snack and health foods

Better-for-you Indian products with a real story and a real specification — naturally gluten-free, plant-based, and sold on grade, moisture and uniformity rather than on price per tonne.

  • Graded to a stated sieve retention
  • Moisture and water activity certified per lot
  • Nitrogen-flushed barrier packing
  • Bulk cartons or retail-format packs
Enquiries welcome

Coffee, spices and GI botanicals

The categories the pattamar actually carried, and the ones we know best. Handled on the same terms as everything else — named origin, measured specification, independent analysis.

  • Speciality green coffee, small lots
  • Geographical-Indication registered spices
  • Contracted on assay, not on grade name
  • Steam treatment only — never ethylene oxide

Why we exist

India is the origin buyers know least and should know best.

India is one of the world's largest food producers and among its largest agricultural exporters, and yet for a great many overseas buyers it remains the origin they are least comfortable with. The reason is rarely the product. It is that the paperwork, the traceability and the consistency have historically been someone else's problem.

Pattamar Trading Co. exists to make that the first thing we solve rather than the last. We take a small number of categories, source them at origin, contract them on measurable specification, and put the analysis in your hands before the goods leave the country.

Registered in India. We ship worldwide and quote to any port.

What to include

Four lines is enough

  • What you make — the product your business sells
  • What you need — product, grade or specification if you have one
  • Roughly what volume, and how often
  • Your port, so we can quote CIF or DAP properly

If you do not know the specification yet, say so — working it out with you is part of the job.
